The Man, the Myth, the Legend

Good Day good people. Today #DaBlock would like to highlight one of our own in today’s blog. Most of you know him as Brownlee by name, but I wonder how many of us truly know the man behind the name? I mean to most he may just simply be Tyrone, while to the Phrat he is known as Bakari Ehioze or Black Phrost; and most of us are embracing Tyrone in his new role as #AddyDaddy. Now personally, I believe he is something like a conundrum wrapped in an enigma; and I mean that in the most positive sense. I mean just look at the above picture. Here lies a man with a certain aura of sophistication (or he just old and really has to rely on the glasses to see) buried underneath a hoodie, which could highlight his “SO H’Town” persona or metaphorically illustrate his ability to be undeniable unique while hanging back in the shadows of others around him. I mean the fact that this black and white pic, taken during his 30th birthday party, captures perfectly the undertone of being classic as he began his transition into the “next phase” of his life.

I have always, secretly, admired Tyrone. I say secretly because I’m not sure I have ever really communicated to him, the level of respect I have for him. In my eyes, Tyrone has always been the guy who was true to himself; for better or worse. He was always accountable and always knew how to brighten a room with his off colored comments or just a very random thought swirling around his head ready to jump out at any moment.

This is the guy who always wore that shirt that made you take a double take (like the one he has on in this pic) ; the guy who you swore was willing to say anything to anybody; sober or not (like the time he asked this girl, who is now my wife, if he could…never mind..LOL!). But I mean that’s Brownlee. There seemed to always be this balance of comedy and seriousness that left you wondering, “Is he being serious? Or is it just jokes” Whatever it was, you knew that it was coming from a good place, because overall he is a good dude!

The part about Brownlee, that truly makes him someone you would want to have in your life, is this uncanny ability to say the most profound thing or offer the type of insight that really challenges you to sit down and reflect. In truth, I may be the only person that this happens too, but I can’t tell you the number of times I have read a blog written by him or have spoken to him on the phone and have received something from him that has challenged my perspective or even re-affirm some things I already believed about the world.  I’m not suggesting that everyone gets to see this side of Tyrone, or that it’s an objective of his in his everyday interactions, but I will say that if you listen closely, it’s there and it is refreshing; especially given his typical jovial, and almost offensive demeanor overall…LOL!

In closing, please understand that Tyrone Brownlee, Jr. is a guys guy. He’s the type of guy who you can have a beer  or sip a nice cognac with. He’s the type of guy that’s down to entertain or have meaningful conversation with over a platter of wings. He’s the type of dude that is never afraid to get into a flow circle, snow bird in a basketball game, or blow past you as a “premiere” wide receiver in a football game. If you are a lover of his writing style, then you also know he is the type of guy who can offer an unique perspective in a way that makes you laugh and think; there have also been times where, when he opens that hidden back door into his true emotions, has jerked a few tears…oh I know I’m not the only one. At any rate, happy birthday Arch Nemesis; may the Lord continue to shape the man, He has created you to be. Never change, and never apologize for who you are! I appreciate what you have done for me, whether you know it or not, and I hope that others are willing to express the same sentiments to you…not just on this day…but whenever they have the chance.

That’s it folks! Hope you enjoyed this many homage to the man, the myth, the legend. The great value version of the most interesting man in his own world…Brownlee (lol). Thanks for tuning in! #HTownStandUp #WriterzBlock.

  1. You couldnt have pegged my practically cousin any better. Your sincerity can be felt through your words and anyone who knows Brownlee/#AddyDaddy knows you definitely did him some justice in this ode to him on his bday. kudos!!! 🙂

  2. Appreciate the love….made me feel old & wise, well mostly old….so to combat that feeling I surrounded myself with people older than me with a Casino Bus trip to Coushatta.

Speak on it!
