Good morning World,
Welcome to the second installment of, soon to be, critically acclaimed Writerz Block aka “The Block”. Today is the first edition of Trending Tuesday and I am your host J Caesar. Trending Tuesdays is a segment that will focus on one of the twitter topics trending today. Every Tuesday one of our remarkable writers will bring you an enjoyable reading sample that will, in some way, be related to a trending topic…even if it’s just associated with the topic name…it will still count! With that being said, “Leggo” *Chris Brown Voice*
Today’s blog will indirectly address the issue of Santa Claus (i can’t really understand why Santa Claus would be trending in August…but oh well). Before you start to slander me because of the title of this blog, please understand that I will not be challenging the existence of Santa Claus (which I don’t believe in) nor will I be dealing with the topic of Christmas Cheer, Kwanza, Hanukkah or anything else referring to the Holiday Spirit. Are you familiar with the carol ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’? This classic Christmas Carol gives us a crafted model of how we should handle the various opportunities that may come to our life, all while providing an explanation as to why your opportunities may or may not come. Remember (for this is key to understanding the following) Santa Claus coming to town = Opportunity coming to town. If you miss this point, you’re screwed.
“You better not pout, you better not cry, your better watch out, I’m telling you why…”
Understand that this carol is an admonishment that is being given so that you can adhere to it. The author is trying to communicate some things that you should and should not do if you want Opportunity to come your way. We see here that one of the first things that you should never do if you want to capitalize on any coming opportunity is complain. Opportunity does not have time for your B*%#% ing and Moaning. Opportunity does not wait on your grieving of past failures; it does not care about your past success; it is and will always push you into the future. Opportunity says, “What happened yesterday is not nearly as important as the future; and how you get to me, depends on what you do today.” This is personified in the line, “you better watch out”. The positive or negative outcomes of life depends solely on your understanding and careful examination of the opportunities presented to you; if you jump on the first thing smoking and bust your head open…guess what #YourFault.
“He’s making a list and checking it twice, gonna find out who’s naughty and nice…”
Initially you may believe that this line refers to your success or failure with past opportunities. On the contrary; this list looks specifically at whether or not you took advantage of the opportunities that have presented themselves to you in the past. For example…you are a person who wants to be in a relationship. You say to yourself, “Today is the day I am putting myself out there and meeting new people”. Opportunity says, “Cool. I will send someone to you.” When that person shows up and you don’t approach them with conversation, get a phone number or something that would leave some impression…Opportunity takes note of that because he does not like wasted time. Opportunity is not concerned with whether or not you actually get the desired number or leave a lasting impression, but he is looking to see if you made the effort. If you did, then Opportunity knows that you can be trusted and will continue to put you in situations to find that special person…until you do, in fact, find that person.
“He sees when you are sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, he knows if you’ve been bad or good…”
Again, this issue of effort is being reinforced. This particular line speaks directly to the individual who is “pouting and crying” about why good things never happen to them. Opportunity’s reply is “You can’t fool me. I’ve been watching you. I am aware that every time you say you want to lose weight, and I provide ways for you to begin that process…you say “I’ll start tomorrow” or “I don’t have time” “You’re sleeping on me and my time”. Opportunity reminds this person that when he presents himself, in whatever form or fashion, you need to be ready and willing to capitalize.
“So be good for goodness sake”
Listen Opportunity is both forgiving and gracious. Opportunity understands life’s daily struggle and all the overt and covert variables that impede you for taking advantage; and because of this understanding, while the frequency may decrease, Opportunity will never give up on you. Opportunity will always be available to push you towards a present action that will impact your future. Opportunity always seeks to implore us into taking advantage of him, every time he presents himself.
Take Advantage of the opportunities that come your way. Do your due diligence and make sure it is an opportunity worth taking (because careful investigation and examination of opportunities also counts as taking action) and learn to live with the results. When you do that, you will keep Santa Claus coming to town. See you tomorrow….for Whatever Wednesdays!
